Starting a business, while working at someone elses
Share
Hey future and current business owners, I'd like to drop some gems on how to navigate your own business while working for someone else. Most small business owners aren't sitting on a gold mine just waiting for them to start a business. For a lot of us we fund our business while working at somebody else's. For the new small business owner this can seem discouraging and for some down right impossible. "How can I reach my dreams, while fulfilling someone else's?" It's possible don't give up hope, remember your goals and why you started. Whether its financial freedom, freedom of jobs you hate, or freedom of time- these tend to be the top 3 reasons people start a business of their own.
Here's some tips to help you get started and or stay on track:
1. Be realistic- There are many niches out there, some have been done time and time again and have been successful. Others haven't been done and might have an audience not tapped into yet. Then there are things that don't exist for a reason. Pick something you know people will use- even if it's not for themselves. A lot of people have fur babies and will buy them whatever they feel they need.
2. Time management- If you have to put in 40 hours a week at someone else's business, how many hours do you have for your own? Don't forget to account for your sleep, and ADL's. Make a schedule to fit in your own business. Make vision boards, write down your schedule in a notes app, have a scheduling book if needed.
3. Sleep- Yes a lot of small business owners believe sleeping less and putting the work in equals your on your grind. Umm wrong, you can't run a business properly while burnt out.
One major thing I've learned is to never look at my current job as the enemy, its simply a stepping stone to get to where I want to be with my own business. it's an exchange of time for money.
